We hand make each bow tie in Croatia with the finest Italian silk fabric. We emphasize quality, elegance, vivid colors and a unique style. Since we have an experienced Croatian seamstress, who is a dear friend of our family, handcrafting each bow tie – one at a time – we have only limited quantities of each style. You are purchasing not just a beautiful bow tie, but an experience. This experience is not about simply buying a bow tie, it is about feeling fantastic and thinking about storied Croatian travel destinations that each bow tie bears their name. We hope that you can travel to some of these most beautiful places on the planet; if not, you will be there in your mind when you wear your bow tie.
We donate $5 for each bow tie purchased to a Croatian children’s charitable organization, Hrabri Telefon, www.hrabritelefon.hr.
My Croatian wife and I would be honored to have you wear our bow ties.
Our Vision
I have thoroughly enjoyed wearing a bow tie for over 30 years. Almost every time I wear one -- which is every day -- it brings a smile to someone's face. Jenny and I decided to handcraft and sell our bow ties because we want the world to smile more and we want to help abused and neglected children. This is why we created Mr. and Mrs. Bow Ties in November, 2014.
Giving Back
Why do we do this? Children need help and at times don’t know how to ask. Hrabri Telefon (Brave Phone) Croatia does just that. Hrabri Telefon helps kids who are abused and need a comforting voice of trained psychologists. This non-governmental, non-profit organization, established in 1997, responds to the need for safety and security of each and every child. Hrabri Telefon enables the voices of children to be heard and systematically works to prevent cruelty and injustice to children.
We donate $5 for each bow tie purchased to Hrabri Telefon, www.hrabritelefon.hr. Your purchase will help and protect abused and neglected Croatian children and assist in the implementation of social services for the children, their parents and professionals.
Thus far, over 1,500 professionals have directly collaborated with children and parents and contributed to the prevention of child abuse and neglect in Croatia. Each year, Hrabri Telefon prints 18,000 copies of educational material, which are then distributed to program and project users as well as professionals working with children. Hrabri Telefon’s professional team, along with the direct work, actively conducts scientific studies, e.g, violence among children, incidence of abuse in childhood and children’s Internet experience.

Bow Tie History
The bow tie originated among Croatian mercenaries during the Prussian wars of the 17th century. The Croat mercenaries used a scarf around the neck to hold together the opening of their shirts. This was soon adopted -- under the name cravat, derived from the French for "Croat" -- by the upper classes in France, then a leader in fashion, and flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries.
